Upper Grades with Purpose...

The Uppers Program at Southwest Christian Academy is designed to guide students through the important transition from elementary learning into the independence and responsibility of middle school. Serving 5th through 8th grade students, this program blends strong academics, character development, and hands-on learning in a supportive Christian environment.

Our goal is to help students grow in knowledge, confidence, leadership, and faith while preparing them for the academic expectations of high school.

Academic Structure

The Uppers program provides a structured middle school schedule with subject-specific classes that help students develop strong study habits, critical thinking skills, and academic independence.

Core subjects include:

  • Mathematics

  • English & Writing

  • Literature & Spelling

  • Science

  • History

  • Bible & Homeroom

Students are encouraged to participate in discussions, complete meaningful assignments, and engage in project-based learning that reinforces key academic concepts.

Developing Independent Learners

During the upper grades, students begin to take more responsibility for their learning. Teachers guide students in developing important skills such as:

  • Time management

  • Organization

  • Note-taking

  • Critical thinking

  • Study strategies

Character & Leadership Development

At SCA, we believe education should shape both the mind and the heart. The Uppers program intentionally incorporates opportunities for students to grow in:

  • Leadership

  • Responsibility

  • Teamwork

  • Service to others

Through our Leadership and Life Skills classes, students learn practical life lessons and develop confidence in using their gifts to positively influence others.

What is a Hybrid Program?

Our Hybrid Program combines the best of both worlds – the flexibility of homeschooling with the structure and support of a traditional classroom environment. Students will attend in-person classes at our academy while completing a portion of their coursework at home. This model allows students to develop greater independence while benefiting from direct interaction with teachers, peers, and our vibrant school community.

Why Choose Our  Hybrid Program?

  1. Flexibility and Independence:
Our hybrid model empowers students to learn at their own pace with the ability to complete assignments, projects, and coursework from home. This flexibility promotes self-directed learning and time management skills while offering a sense of personal responsibility for their academic progress.

  2. Personalized Learning:
At Southwest Christian Academy, we know that each student is unique. Our teachers work closely with each middle schooler to understand their strengths, areas for growth, and learning preferences. The combination of in-person support and independent study helps cater to a diverse range of learning styles and needs.

  3. Faith-Based Education:
Our program is rooted in Christian values. Students receive biblical instruction alongside their core subjects, developing both their academic skills and spiritual growth. We aim to equip them with the tools to thrive academically, socially, and spiritually, fostering a strong foundation for their future.

  4. Engaged Learning Community:
Students are not just learning independently – they are part of a dynamic community. Our hybrid program encourages collaboration, creativity, and the development of social skills. Students engage in group activities, field trips, and projects with peers, creating lasting friendships and a sense of belonging.

  5. Parental Involvement:
Homeschooling allows for greater parental involvement in your child’s learning. As a parent, you can be actively engaged in your child’s education, helping to guide their learning process, provide support, and even integrate your own teaching preferences within the curriculum. You’re not alone in this journey – we work with you to ensure your student’s success.

How It Works

On-Site Classes:
Students will attend our academy for a portion of the week to participate in live lessons, group activities, and hands-on learning. These in-person sessions are designed to provide the personal interaction and support that students need to deepen their understanding of the material.

Home-Based Learning:
For the remainder of the week, students will complete assignments and lessons from home, guided by the curriculum provided by our educators. They can access online resources, submit assignments, and receive feedback from teachers through our Learning Management System, Brightwheel.

What Makes Us Unique?

  • Faith-Based Curriculum: At SCA, we place a strong emphasis on integrating Christian teachings with academic studies. Students are not only taught math, science, and history, but are also encouraged to grow in their faith as they learn.

  • Supportive Teacher-Student Relationships: Our teachers are committed to each student’s success. They maintain regular communication with students and parents, providing academic and emotional support throughout the year.

  • Parental Partnership: As a hybrid program, we believe in the power of collaboration between parents and educators. Parents play an integral role in ensuring their child’s academic success while being supported by our team every step of the way.
